
On 16 March 1978, the Amoco Cadiz, a supertanker VLCC tanker built in 1974 and registered in Liberia, from 234,000 gross tons 330 meters long, rented by the U.S. company Amoco, a subsidiary of Standard Oil, ran aground off the Breton coast, opposite the village of Portsall. The cargo was
: 230,000 tons of Iranian crude oil transported, to which were added 3,000 tons of diesel fuel (which will all be poured along 400 km of coast of Brittany (France).
