
The devastating landslide occurred February 23, 1999 in the Alpine village of Galtür. The avalanche killed 31 people and is considered the worst occurred in the Alps in the last 40 years.The causes were many, the great snow that deposited four feet of snow, the sudden temperature differences in a few hours, combined with strong winds that helped create large drifts of snow, it caused about 170,000 tons poured on the country.
